Start with the current heater

Record whether your current system uses electricity or gas, its model and where it is installed. Say whether this is a replacement or a new installation. These facts help the provider check the relevant pathway. An advertised headline cannot establish eligibility from your postcode or household interest alone.

How the NSW incentive is presented

The NSW Government describes its hot water upgrade incentive as an upfront discount in an installation quote for an eligible upgrade. It is not generally a cash payment that the household receives later. Ask the provider to identify the scheme, confirm the relevant requirements and show the discount in the quote.

Program rules and available amounts can change. Rather than publishing a universal dollar figure here, we link to the current official page below. Required customer contributions and other conditions may apply. An upgrade should not be described as free merely because an incentive exists.

What federal STCs mean

The Clean Energy Regulator explains that eligible small-scale renewable systems can create small-scale technology certificates, often called STCs. Householders may assign the right to create certificates to a registered agent in exchange for a purchase-price discount. Ask how any STC value is treated in your quote and what paperwork you would sign.

The regulator maintains a register of eligible solar water heater and air-source heat pump models. A model’s appearance in advertising is not a substitute for checking the relevant listing and eligibility dates. Ask the provider to identify the exact model rather than relying only on a product family name.

Compare the full installed price

Request an itemised quote showing the equipment, installation scope, each incentive or discount and the amount you pay. Ask what could change that amount. Keep the installation assessment separate from the funding assessment: a product can still need a suitable location, electrical arrangements and capacity for your household.

Do not assume two incentives can be combined in your situation just because both exist. Ask the provider to confirm the proposed combination and any conditions before you agree. Save the written eligibility explanation with the quote.

Finance is a separate agreement

Puora’s stated heat pump offer is 0% interest, $0 upfront and five years to pay, subject to eligibility, lender approval and terms. Request the named provider’s fee schedule, repayments and exclusions before applying. Interest-free does not necessarily mean fee-free, and finance approval does not confirm a government incentive.

There is no loan application on this website. The enquiry form prepares an email to Max so you can ask about the offer. Do not send bank details or identity documents in that enquiry.

Five questions before you proceed

  1. Which exact model and installation scope have been quoted?
  2. Which schemes apply, and who confirms eligibility?
  3. What is the total price after the stated discounts?
  4. What customer payments or additional work remain?
  5. If financing, what are the complete provider terms?

For product suitability and potential running costs, discuss your own usage and tariff. A funding offer is not proof of a particular energy saving.

Quick answers

Is an NSW incentive paid into my bank account?

The hot water upgrade incentive is generally provided as an upfront discount in the installation quote for an eligible upgrade. Confirm the current scheme details with the provider.

Does 0% interest mean there are no fees?

Not necessarily. Request the finance provider’s complete terms and fee schedule before deciding.
