Ask for the maintenance plan before buying

A filtration quote is easier to assess when you know what happens after installation. Ask for the model name, the replacement parts it uses, the recommended schedule and the cost of those parts. Confirm whether any tasks need a service visit and what access must remain clear. Treat maintenance as part of the purchase decision, not an unexpected extra.

NSW Health says filters used to improve taste must be maintained and replaced in line with manufacturer instructions. Otherwise they can become ineffective. This does not establish a single calendar interval for every product, water supply or household.

Keep a simple system record

A folder or note on your phone is enough. Save the original quote, model and serial number, installation date, instructions and warranty information. Add the date and part number each time an element is replaced. Photograph the installed arrangement so you can describe it accurately when ordering parts or asking a question.

Whole-home systems: preserve working space

Do not fill the servicing area with storage or landscaping after installation. Ask how much room is needed to remove housings and where the relevant isolation controls are. If you are unsure how to operate them, ask for a demonstration at handover. This guide is a planning checklist, not instructions to dismantle pressurised equipment.

RO systems: remember the parts you cannot see

An under-sink system can include several treatment stages, so ask which items have separate replacement requirements. Keep its labels readable and avoid packing objects against tubing or access points. If you are changing kitchen cabinetry later, tell the person doing the work that the filtration system needs to remain accessible.

A taste change is worth discussing, but it is not a complete test of all performance claims. NSF’s consumer guidance makes clear that certification concerns specified claims. Neither normal taste nor a generic label proves that every contaminant is being reduced.

When your routine changes

Ask for product-specific advice after a long period away, a change of water source, or an alteration to the plumbing. If a supplier issues a drinking-water advisory, follow the official advice rather than assuming your domestic filter overrides it. Let the person assessing the system know what changed and when.

What about the hot water flush offer?

The flush and clean offered with a Puora filtration installation is a separate part of the agreed work. It does not eliminate the new filter’s maintenance needs or establish a permanent cleaning schedule for the hot water unit. Ask what was done, what instructions apply to the existing unit and what to record for future reference.

Before booking, send the system details you have and explain whether you are planning a new installation or asking about an existing Puora installation. Our advertised services remain whole-home filtration, under-sink RO and heat pump hot water.

Quick answers

Can I use one replacement interval for every filter?

No. Use the instructions for the exact system and elements, taking account of any stated operating conditions.

Does a flush remove the need to maintain the new filter?

No. A hot water unit flush and the filter’s ongoing upkeep are separate matters.
